Embark on a compact yet comprehensive 5-day exploration of Sri Lanka’s finest cultural, natural, and scenic highlights. Starting from Colombo or the airport, the journey leads to the Cultural Triangle with visits to the UNESCO-listed Dambulla Cave Temples and an evening climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress to admire ancient ruins and breathtaking sunset views, followed by overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 2 includes a morning tour of Polonnaruwa’s medieval capital with its impressive ruins, and an afternoon safari in Minneriya National Park to see wild elephant herds. Return to Sigiriya for the night.

On Day 3, travel to Kandy with a stop at a Spice & Herbal Garden, visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, stroll around Kandy Lake, and enjoy an evening cultural dance show before overnighting in Kandy.

Day 4 is a scenic journey through tea country with visits to the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, Ramboda Falls, and a tea plantation with tasting, then explore Nuwara Eliya – “Little England” – with its charming lake and town. The day ends in Ella, reached by optional train or road, where you stay overnight.

The final day features sights in Ella including the Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak hike, and Ravana Falls. Then, head south to Yala National Park for an optional safari or visit Galle Fort for sightseeing before returning to Hikkaduwa, Colombo, or the airport.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Colombo → Sigiriya

  • Pick-up from Airport / Colombo / Hikkaduwa.
  • Drive to the Cultural Triangle.
  • Visit Dambulla Cave Temples – UNESCO site with stunning Buddha statues and ancient frescoes.
  • Evening climb to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress (Lion Rock) to see the royal ruins and panoramic sunset views.
  • Overnight in Sigiriya.

Day 2: Sigiriya → Polonnaruwa → Minneriya

  • Morning visit to Polonnaruwa Ancient City, the medieval capital with royal palaces, stone carvings, and giant Buddha statues.
  • Afternoon Minneriya National Park Safari – watch herds of wild elephants in their natural habitat.
  • Overnight in Sigiriya.

Day 3: Sigiriya → Kandy

  • Drive to Kandy with a stop at a Spice & Herbal Garden in Matale.
  • Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa).
  • Stroll around Kandy Lake and enjoy a Cultural Dance Show in the evening.

Day 4: Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella

  • Scenic drive through tea country.
  • Visit Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens.
  • Stop at Ramboda Falls and a tea plantation/factory for tasting.
  • Arrive in Nuwara Eliya – explore “Little England” and Gregory Lake.
  • Continue by train (optional) or road to Ella.
  • Overnight in Ella.

Day 5: Ella → Yala / Galle → Hikkaduwa / Colombo

  • Morning visit to Nine Arch Bridge and hike Little Adam’s Peak in Ella.
  • Stop at Ravana Falls.
  • Drive south to Yala National Park (optional safari if time permits) OR continue to Galle Fort for sightseeing.
  • Evening drop-off at Hikkaduwa / Colombo / Airport.
